The Owl & The Pussycat

Went to sea in a beautiful pea green boat. . .

      A Poem by Edward Lear

This cute, nonsensical, nineteenth century poem with a rock n’ roll twist can help children learn some new vocabulary, establish cultural awareness, and offers the opportunity for teachers to follow up with some new culinary delicacies.  Dr. Rhythm offers the children the opportunity to act out the song, and put new words, such as “tarried”, “shilling”, and “runcible spoon”, on the portable word wall.

The Gunniwolf : A Nigerian Tale
This age old story teaches us rule number 1 - that you’re mother is always right!  Even if you think she may be wrong, remember rule number 1.  The chant, “Cum Kwa Kee Wah” means, “every day I like to play,” in a Nigerian language.  The children will be singing the tune for days after hearing the story.

The Itsy bitsy Spider Blues and Dance

A song about PERSEVERANCE

Dr. Rhythm sings this traditional song in a rhythm & blues format with a few additional moves.  The children have the opportunity to learn some spatial relations and body movements as they dance the “Spider’s Stride”.  We add the word “perseverance” to our word wall.
